Once again this year, the Aix-Marseille iGEM student team won a silver medal at the international synthetic biology competition held in Paris for their TERRALGI project.

Their idea is to combat soil drought by spreading small beads of calcium alginate, a natural polymer that is very rich in water and already used in the food and cosmetic industries. To obtain alginate in large quantities, the team worked on optimizing the environmental bacterium Pseudomonas putida using synthetic biology.

The project was sponsored by Ville de Marseille, Crédit Mutuel, IM2B, AMIDEX, FSDIE and the LISM.

Congratulation to the TERRALGI team !
